Which is better msd or accel

The vehicle is driven daily, sometimes under heavy load so durability is a major concern. But how do you know if a coil is good or not? Can it be checked with a meter or something? Of course you will have to know what the acceptable range is first, but all coils will generally fall into the same ballpark.

If you want I will measure a good known Accel supercoil and give you the specs. YOu need to measure resistance across the primary windings then across the secondary.

If your coil is bad, you will experience loss of power under load and current breakdown under load and high RPM. Make sure you don't have a ballast resistor or inline resistor wire supplying the coil, you want the coil to get a full 12V. Just put your meter on DCV and measure at the coil primary with the key on, you should be getting 12V all the time.

High temps will not be a factor for the supercoil because it is well protected by the big oil-filled case. You will want to mount it on the fenderwell, or for that engine on the the firewall since your distributor is in the back. I believe Scullman has this same engine in his Cherokee, so maybe you can compare with him. The figures on a good coil would be greatly appreciated.

I wouldn't want to go shell out dat cash if theres nuttin wrong with the coil I already have. Hopefully the stock coil's figures are pretty close to the Accel specs. Right now the coil is located directly above the engine at the front which is definitely a hot location.
